Versatile Red Safety Observation Lights

I like the small bicycle safety lights for our Chicago Astronomer astronomical observation sites. Small and they run forever.

They can also be used for site safety....keeping clumsy Astronomers from bumping into Telescopes and equipment, but more importantly - to bring site awareness to our visitors - checking to see what the red lights are for and to keep them from tripping on tripod legs/cords and such.

I have been using ordinary red bicycle lights I got from a dollar years ago...with great success. And for a buck, they did their job well. But, seems like I cannot find them anymore, at least not for a dollar. There are a lot out there for under $5.00, but I always look for a deal - and something different.

I came across these beauties on-line from Mainland China for very cheap and these do more than just stay solidly on or flash. With four modes, they:

* Flash

*Stays on solid

*Sequential blinking

...and random blinking

I got five on the spot at $2.00 each...

Using two AAA batteries each, they are quite small and incredibly bright! They could easily illuminate an area bathed with red light. With an attachment for either bicycle mounting or a clip for clothing, it is easily slipped on and off with a "hotshoe", similar to a camera flash attachment.

It did take about a month for arrival, but that's quite alright. I just may get me some more.
