Hi folks.
Recently I have been experimenting with astro photography and I have to say the limiting factor for my exposures
@ my location is the dreaded orange washout.
However whilst investigating [online] the properties of various LP reduction filters I found this little gem for users of non modded canon dslr from my "local" forum and would like to share the advice given...

"Wasn't my idea ****, I was given it by ****, but it works wonders.
What I was told, and it doesn't sound as tecky as what you mention...... Set up the gear as if it were to be imaging including the filter you are to image with. Cover the front of the scope with a white T-shirt or similar. Point it at a nice even light source, I used a bright sky during the day. Set the camera exp so that the light meter is in the middle and take a shot.
This is now saved on the camera card. If you open it on the PC it looks slightly blue. Now, on the 1000d you go into the menu and select custom white balance and select the blueish frame you just took. AFAIK what this does is this, the camera now thinks that this bluish level is white and makes corrections to the astro images which brings the blue levels down.....
Sorry if I am trying to teach my granny to suck eggs here mate but this is the only way I know how to explain it, in laymans terms coz thats all I understand...... "
