Eyepiece Power/Focal Length chart
Now, this is cool.
Often, we are asked at star parties and astro functions...."How powerful is your telescope?"
"It's not the power, but the light gathered."...I sometimes respond, but people want to hear more about magnification than of optical mechanics.
Ok.
This is from the Sangamon Astronomical Society and quite cool.
Here is a very handy spread sheet - calculation work already done by an unknown astronomer and ready to use. I will print it out and not only use it for Chicago Astronomer activities, but will come in handy at the Adler for our public session.
On my C11, (2800 Fl, f/10), for example, I run the magnification spectrum from 56x to slightly over 700x with a 3.2mm I have.
The 60mm finder scope with interchangeable eyepieces on top of the C11, (350 mm Fl, f/5.8), 7x to 88. I normally keep a 25mm in the finderscope - bring me 15x wide field. Very comfortable.
And on the C5 (1250mm Fl f/6.3), it spans 25x to 313x.
On my old trusty 4.5 Newt (1000 Fl), it goes from 20x to 250x.
A Barlow section would have been nice for quick reference.
