Uranus Imaged in the C11
07 June 2010
07 June 2010
Finally....Captured a pic of Uranus.
Not a great one, but one nevertheless...
I set up outside my garage at 3:30 am to see if I could catch Uranus and pleased that I could image it.
(This was after a four hour session by the Adler...ending at 1:30 am...

It was fairly easy to locate, being in close conjunction with Jupiter - only about a degree and a half or so. The Rigel finder made quick work of locating it.
The disk was clearly displayed in a 25mm and kicking it up to a 10mm provided good views - although the atmospheric conditions weren't the best. But the color was unmistakable.
(I have developed tracking difficulties in R.A axis motion, ergo, Uranus wasn't tracked properly and I had to nudge it during the imaging - most of which were not worthy of posting. But this one above was the best and quite cool.
I zoomed in, but conditions at hand did not provide a clear shot.
I also slewed toward Jupiter for some quick shots and noticed that Callisto was near a limb...
The breezes were not making imaging easy and this was not my best session...
And...some quick lunar shots...
An hour later at 4:30 am, dawn ended the quick session...
My dog Laika is making a good space dog and she knows that I'm preparing to bring the scope out....
Good girl.
There was good Earthshine on the darkside of the Moon this early morning...
I should have taken a wide shot of the Moon, Jupiter and Uranus when I first stared, but grabbed a couple afterwards...
This shot, only taken with the Canon Powershot S3 at 12x optical zoom, Uranus can clearly be observed in close conjunction with Jupiter.
I need to work on this damned tracking situation. I don't know if it's balance or something else that's preventing R.A. tracking. A daytime task...among others...
Another good session with Laika and Astro Joe
