Chicago Astronomer get together for Rajasi's Visit
28 November 2009
Members of the Adler/Chicago Astronomer crew got together to see Rajasi for her visit to Chicago after a long time away - who is studying and teaching astronomy in the warm San Francisco area and a former Adler Planetarium telescope facilitator.

Shown are: Myself, Rajasi, Arnvid, John, Linda & Alfred and Carmen

Meeting at a north side restaurant in Chicago, we enjoyed each others company and played a little pool...

There was also a magician traveling around the tables and demonstrating quite cool magic tricks and slight of hand. Here, he astounds Linda by changing a baseball in to a lemon before our very eyes...

Quite cool... ;D

John and Rajasi
Of course, astronomers like the open skies and we head out to my favorite Chicago Astronomer locale with wide open eastern skies, bringing along our scopes. With a three car caravan, we meet up at Joe's estates first and head toward the lakefront at 12:30 am for some quick astronomy.

Doing my best E.T impression, we take a moment to grab a 8 second time exposure shot.
I brought the C11 beast and John brought his C5 go-to and his newly acquired 4" refractor - sans mount, so he used Arnvid as a make shift tripod...

Most of the crew departed after a short while, with our out-of-town guest freezing from her California adaptation. John and I stayed and did some astronomy on our own, catching up on life and peeking at Saturn, M42, Mars, (Which has an incredible southern Ice cap presently), and the Moon...

Dew was a problem and I was still having problems with my tracking, so no imaging with the C11 until I correct the fault. Conditions were degrading, but we did stay until 4:00am before we called it a night.
It was nice to see Rajasi again and hopefully it won't be as long for the next visit...
