Read an interesting article in the newspaper today:
Forget Mars, look for ETs instead
I won't quote the entire article, but the author did make a statement that struck me:
"Why theorize about trying to establish colonies on Mars to preserve humanity in the event of a catastrophic asteroid impact on Earth rather than trying to preserve our planet by avoiding the catastrophe?"
Good question.
(Although I disagree with the theme that further exploration of the Solar System should be put on the back-burner. I happen to be a big supporter of a mission to Mars and continued exploration of the Solar System.)
