I have been dreaming of making an elegant rotateable chair with integral mount for my binoculars, but have yet to find a design to my liking. I would be grateful to anybody with additional recommendations on this subject.
So far I have enjoyed looking at and contemplating the homeade contraptions of Eugene Artemyeff:

The Comet Couch seems simpler to build than the Bino Pod, but I keep thinking there must be something simpler.
Yes, I've gone through the back issues of Astronomy and Sky&Telescope and found a half dozen other awkward contraptions. They're still not what I'm looking for.
Sure, there are beautiful commercially available ones like the $5,000 StarChair (http://www.starchair.com) and the $2,000 StarSeeker (http://www.bigha.com/seeker/index.php), but I'm looking for something 50x less expensive which I can assemble myself.
The closest bino chair to my liking is the Zenithon Observing Chair (http://www.astrosurf.com/lhoumeau/jumelles/autr0028.htm). Unfortunately, this company no longer exists. I'm thinking something like the Zenithon counterbalanced by springs instead of or in addition to the counterweights would be very nice. Although my 10x50's weigh 37 ounces, I'd like my chair mount to eventually support 5 to 7 pounders as well.
Ideas?
