This was the second time that Steve brought out his carry and go scope to an outing, instead of his larger SCT and, got himself new eyepieces to play with as well.
He describes his scope: "My 90mm Mak is an Orion apex. fl=1250mm. It comes with a mediocre eq-1 gem mount and (lightweight, OK) tripod. The mak itself, however is very nice, smooth focusing and well aligned. It makes a good travel scope, but I am still searching for the ultimate lightweight travel mount. GEMs and their confounded counterweights are too heavy."
He also just received new eyepieces, and we were anxious to try them out. He describes the new aquisitions: "The eyepieces are orion ed-2's. got the 5.1, 9.5 and 25mm ones, details at www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=212&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=6&iSubCat=36&iProductID=212
I got two of them as "seconds" from their clearance pages, ( 20% off, typically) , which I check regularly for deals. They are perfect, probably just customer returns. I'm very happy with them...great apov, good eye relief ( I've got glasses), nice contrast, decent edge focus, and huge exit pupils!

I borrowed Steve's eyepieces to use on my modest 4.5" scope, and was impressed with the views. I especially liked the 5.1mm as it showed Jupiter as a great orb, and the great riles and valleys on the Moon...although pushing the magnification limits of my scope.
