Scopetronix, Apogee and others Out of Business?

From a astro yahoo group comes this startling news of some telescopic retailers who are mysteriously quiet:

Per a posting on the SV group Scopetronix is no longer answering
emails or their phone. The web site is still up. Too bad as they had
some interesting accessories if you were into astrophotography or
hooking a digital camera to a scope.

Apogee Inc. is in the same situation as I have not been able to reach them by phone or email. Web site still up last time I checked.

In England I hear Astro Engineering is having difficulties. Their
U.S. distributor is gone with the web name available.

We have discussed Vixen's TV owned distribution shutdown.

I have been hearing that current astro equipment sales are in the
dumps and this seems to be evidence that it is true.

I did a little checking this morning and found out that Scopetronix
is indeed gone. Dale Penkala (DBA Astronomy) bought up their
remaining inventory a while back.

From what I understand, Apogee may have moved. To quote my
source, "There was some word on the Cloudynights forums that they
weren't answering their phones and folks thought they might be
closed, but somebody finally got through and they said they were
still around, but busy. (Too busy to answer phones??) Unless
something has happened since then..."

Doing some further checking, there seems to be a new number for
Apogee. I now have 815-923-4188, with a street address of 9411
Knolltop Rd., Union IL 60180.
