Call us mad, Sol mad!

Rajasi, Arvind [yet to be a C.A] and I volunteered to show folks how visually hot the sun can be at the Adler.

We brought out 3 scopes:
- 60mm refractor [demonstrate how to project solar image]
- 80mm refractor [strapped with H-alpha solar filter]
- 200mm reflector [capped with white light solar filter]

The 2 bigger scopes were setup at the south balcony while the little refractor was placed inside. We rotated to stay cool and hydrated.

Please Rajasi and Arvind, don't be bashful.


Visitors were very excited to see the sun

I brought along my 3.2MP digital camera to try my hand at taking pics of some prominences. I lucked out!



I projected the images with a 25mm Plossl

There was a stiff breeze that kept heat barely tolerable. With the Lollapalooza music in the background, it was another fine day of solar observing.

Excellent shot of your Adler activity while the Sun was beating down on you three. You brave astronomers you! I think I'll recommend you three for Sahara duty. But I see you didn't use the Joe McGiver Umbrella!

That is a cool prominence shot. I wasn't too sure we could project an image of one, but you showed the way.
