Mini Star Party 31 May 2005
It was such a clear sky this evening, that Chicago Astronomer Steve and I decided to venture out to the Adler and set up. A bit windy, and rather cool, we put out the welcome mat.
People started to come up and ask to peek, but it was still too light out to catch a target, and told them to back back in a bit.
Steve spotted Jupiter naked eye first, and used his 8" go-to SCT to target it. Jupiter provided excellent views this evening, bands clearly showed and good imaging of the entire disk. While he was on Jupiter I targeted Venus, which was shining in the west among the skyline of Chicago. About the only good thing about
Venus is it's brightness, and phase's. It was more at the gibbous stage I observed, but I would have thought it would be more of a crescent...considering it's recent reappearance from behind the Sun.
So there we went, back and forth between the three objects, met nice people and recommended them to visit the Chicago Astronomer.
Among the visitors to our Telescopes, were these nice men from Germany. They were from a religious order on a mission here in the United States.

They will be rebuilding a church here in Chicago, and they offered to show me around the site. Excellent I say.
Chicago Astronomer Brian (Nature Devil), stopped by as well with his girlfriend Clair and we caught up with exciting developments in his life. More people stopped by, and we displayed the planets again, but by that time, it was now about 10:30 and time to pack it all up...and besides, it was getting cold.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
