Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster on the Big Screen
The Write Stuff blog reports that a movie is in the works to tell the story of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Written by Nicole Perlman, the film will be directed by Philip Kaufman (“The Right Stuff,” “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”) and will star Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck”) as world-renowned scientist and Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman.
Produced by M8 Entertainment, Inc, the film will be "an investigative drama in the vein of “The Insider,” “Challenger” examines the role that Feynman played in the investigation into the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. Motivated in part by his uneasy conscience due to his participation in the Manhattan Project, Feynman is determined to ensure that there will be no institutional cover-up of the negligence that led to the tragedy. “Challenger” uses the investigation as an opportunity to humanize the famously eccentric physicist."
I look forward to seeing this film. Dr. Feynman was one of my heroes and my retelling of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster is one of the more popular articles at this site.
