New and Old Fan's of the Chicago Astronomer
While imaging the moon - (See "Astrophotography" on this forum for images) - by the Lakefront Sunday evening, people would approach and ask to see through the telescope. Many come and go, but some leave an impression.
Nirvana Muni and Iya Fatola were two such people. Nirvana jokingly asked about moon cheese as they both passed by, but Iya stopped and desired a peek at the raising moon. The Moon first viewed thru a telescope is always spectacular, and this time was no exception.
We got to chatting and I discovered that both Nirvana and Iya were astrologers. As I don't know much of astrology, we discussed certain aspects of practice, and I casually mentioned that I am an Aquarian. Iya and Nirvana then proceeded to tell me about certain characteristics of my personality, which I must say was on the money. But this next insight really caused me to pause.
As they left, we shook hands and Iya hesitated for a moment and mentioned that it feels that I am/was connected... to the Police Department! I was totally not expecting this...as I had spent 20 years as a Police Instructor! I was, and still am quite impressed!
With the raising moon in the background, here are my new astronomical friends.
Later on in the evening, three members of the Chicago Forum made their grand appearance...Brian, Jeni and Claire. Also there was a member of the Naturedevil band, but I can't seem to remember his name....I do apologize. He and I spent some time chatting various subjects while the rest of the crew went to explore the lakeshore, with Brian taking a nice swim in Lake Michigan waters.
Here are members of the NatureDevil party peering thru the scope at the raising moon.
As 11:00 pm was now at hand, it was time to pack up and leave. The crew, all young, strong and eager to assist, helped this older astronomer with his equipment to his car. It was quite a struggle bringing it all solo to the observational spot, and I thank them for their help and company. Always nice to see the NatureDevil crew at the astronomical events.
They have a music gig on the 14th of August at Memories - 4358 Cicero Ave. If I am free, I will see what all the excitement is about....
