I saw the Search this evening out of the corner of my eye doing other things. It's been awhile since I have last seen it, and I was taken aback by some oddities of the flick.
[/li][li]Star Fleet has bad attitude all around. Must be staffed with future descendants of Chicago P.D. [/li][li]First -The dude in charge of StarFleet denies Kirk any vessel to retrieve Spock's body, after all he has done for the ignorant Earthlings. [/li][li] Second - The Captain of the Science ship "Grissom" rubs me the wrong way and should never have been allowed to Captain. [/li][li] Another ass is the Captain of the Excelsior - enough said. [/li][li] Fourth - Sarek states that all Vulcans, when facing death, transfers the essence to another, like Spock did to Bones, apparently a common procedure. Then while back on Vulcan, the High Priestess states that the transfer has not been conducted for millenia. [/li][li] In Star Trek canon...The instrumentation is much more archaic compared to Archer's ship. [/li][li]What's the deal with the informal flap down on the uniforms, serves no logical purpose.[/li][li]When Sarek and Kirk review the recording together to see who Spock transferred his essence to, it literally shows the scratches, hair, and imperfections that film has on the view screen. And it also starts out staccato at the start of each review - like a film projector would. I doubt there is a union projectionist running the clips. And another thing...In many Trek episodes, they show visual log recordings with zooms, pans and camera movements that would not be expected on a panel camera.[/li][li] Zulu seemed to handle an alien craft too well. [/li][li]Kirk seemed more interested in Spock than his own kid's death. Considering he only knew his kid for a short time, understandable.[/li][li] When Kirk goes to break out Bones, the guard is snippy and disrespectful to Admiral Kirk and to Zulu. Seems out of place. Again the Star Fleet attitude at work.[/li][li] I still don't understand how Spock reverted back to a child. He was shot out in a torpedo a grown man. At what point did he become a,(a single cell and then divided) b,(a baby) c, (a toddler), and what did he eat?[/li][li] Also, when the away crew came upon the torpedo, they open up the "casket" and find Spock's death robe and leave it there. later we see Spock wearing it.
I remember when this movie first came out, and the Star Trek geeks all went crazy when they killed off Spock...and then...burned up the Enterprise!
Yea...yea...I know some of you reading will think, Geesh...It's just a movie. Well, yes, it's just a movie, rather dumb one really, but the enjoyment of fellow Trekkers discussing the incredibly non significant is rather entertaining.
I think that the recent work, (Voyager, DS9, Enterprise & TNG), have better production values and plot, than the early movies.
Don't get me started on "The Wrath of Khan".
