Hello Everyone -
just joined the group and I wanted to take a minute to share some info about myself with you.
My name is Patrick Sutton and I am 43 yrs old, married with 4 awesome children, and I live on the south side in Roseland. My wife and I are full time missionaries currently serving in Chicago while we await future placement in an orphanage in Mexico. I have always had a great enthusiasm for astronomy and bought my first scope in the early 70's - a new cave astrola 6" reflector - with my earnings from a paper route. I have since owned many scopes, the largest having been a 16" DOB. When I decided to become a full time missionary approx 7 yrs ago, I sold my DOB as well as my house and most all of my other possessions.
About 2 years ago, we started a couple of internet based businesses to buy and sell computers, electronics, and software with 100% of the proceeds going to fund missionary works that are done all around the world by the organization we serve with. God has blessed our efforts greatly and we have been able to help in many ways. Seeing how this has worked so well in those businesses, I am considering doing the same with telescopes and other astronomy accessories. It would really be a double blessing for me - getting back into astronomy and still being able to devote the proceeds to the missionary works. I currently have a meade 10" equatorial reflector that I am trying to get up to Chicago from Dallas (does anyone know someone coming to Chicago from Dallas?!)
I look forward to getting to know the members and observing as time permits.
Sincerely,
Patrick Sutton
