A non-scheduled session by Joe
I had scheduled a meet at the Adler with a friend this evening, but she canceled at the last moment. But I did see a couple of Telescope Operators diligently working the special event. So I decided to butt in.
Bill and Mia were showing the Pharmacy convention group various sites and in between clouds, Venus and the Moon. I thought I would lend a hand and chat with the visitors. I must say...I had a good time talking with this group from California. Stories about Long beach and Los Angeles, with pretty girls, ex-Chicagoans and individuals interested in astronomy. We discussed cosmology, dimensional theories, and firsthand astronomical experiences. Also...they all had shared their impressions of Chicago being a clean and well ordered city, and it's nice to see Chicago through the eyes of visitors. In all, it was a great dialog.
I spent two hours just talking with these fine people, while Mia and Bill actually worked the scopes and executed their responsibilities well. I learned that Mia is working on a Gravitational Wave project and is heading toward being a physicist quite quickly. Great stuff. I hope she logs on and tells us about it.
And with that, the night was over and we headed on our ways.
