Okay, I haven't see it yet, but hope to catch it this weekend. I was reading some of the user comments at imdb.com and it sounds like a good adaptation of the great Douglas Adams book. I'll post my comments after I see. Anyone else planning to see it, or already seen it?

I was not a big HGTTG fan, didn't read the books, but I enjoyed listening to others rave about it when they come out in the late '70's early 80's.

The previews look fun and the narcissistic blond dude is funny. I will see it as well, perhaps as early as tomorrow afternoon.

I saw Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy over the weekend. It was the top grossing film for the weekend. My wife accompanied me and I warned her, since she hadn't read the books, that it will either be hillarious, funny, silly or stupid. Many times throughout the movie, she turned towards me with the "what are we watching" looking on her face.

The characters were very well cast with the exception of Ford Prefect. I don't know if it's Mos Def's lack of acting or just a bad interpretation of the character, but I don't think he was a good Ford Prefect.

Was the movie hillarious, funny, silly or stupid? Well, my wife and I both agree that it was all of the above. 5% hilarious, 20% funny, 50% silly and 25% stupid. I'm glad I saw it but it just goes to show that it's difficult to capture the same essence of a unique story written by a great writer on film.

If you haven't read the books, you may walk way confused. That's okay, just remember... Don't Panic

You know...I have seen that look quite a few times from my dates in my moving picture patronage.

It looks like a fun movie regardless. I won't be biased against it, as I really didn't follow the original writings. Perhaps this weekend!

There's going to be a sequel as well.

I get the "Don't Panic" reference now...

I just got back from seeing Hitchhiker, and I have mixed thoughts about. Having not read the book, seen the PBS series or have any sentimental attachment to the franchise, I found the movie rather scattered and disjointed. One could have entered at any point in the movie and still wouldn't have mattered. It had it's funny moments, but I am rather dissapointed...perhaps as a layperson...I just don't get it, and you would be right.

I am pleased to see Marvin the robot and his emotionally depressed state, as I remember the parody song, but it was like eating a big promoted meal and still being hungry afterwards. It's like they tried to jam a whole bunch of stuff into the movie and didn't truely develope any of it.

Just my non-fan opinion of the Movie. Hope to hear from fans of the book to tell a different review.

Just had to respond to this thread, as the form's token Englishman!

HGTTG was infinitely better when the BBC adapted it into a six part TV series in the eighties. Not only did they stick to the original story a whole lot more than the film but the casting was far better. If you get a chance to see the 'Adams approved' BBC version, see it - it beats the film hands down.

Al - you're right about Ford Prefect. That was my favourite character in the book and the TV series. Needless to say Mos Def was a let down.

Is it just me or are films rubbish these days? Bring back Star Trek the Motion Picture!!!
