The Chicago Astronomers gather to observe the Full Moon rise - (Minus a day)
On the 28th of September, Chicago Astronomers Steve, Rob and I decided to venture out to the lakefront to catch the fullish Moon rising over the lake after the mornings Total Lunar eclipse event.
Steve invited interested neighbors who wished to join in on the observation. Shown are: Out of town visitor, Sonia Arvanitis, Mimi Gartler, David Gartler, Georgia Badikian, Beatriz Badikian Gartler, Myself, Steve and Rob.
A pleasant evening greeted us and we three set up our scopes for a no rush Moon rising. I brought classical tunes to accompany us for the evening.
Again, for the second month in a row, I was the first to spot the lunar limb rising over the mucky horizon. We all targeted the orb in our scopes and visitors started to meander over to our scopes, wondering what was going on.
With three scopes displaying different views, our group had fun enjoying the views and discussing astronomy with us.
Rising over the Stonehenge-like structure located on the south lawn of the Adler, looks almost pre-historic.
Later on more individuals arrived to join us, some curious on what was going on, others - Chicago Astronomer newsletter readers...
I decided on taking a mass group shot with the Moon glowing behind us.
Shown are: Lacy, Georgia, Megan, Beatriz, Mimi, Steve, Sonia , Martha, Out of town friend, Jocelyn, Rob, James, Luis (Little boy), David and Myself.
The rising Moon displayed different illuminations and detail as it's declination increased. Here in this montage illustrates the ever changing lunar face:
A very nice evening sharing views with friends and hope to do it again for September's full Moon rise....which will be the Harvest Moon. Always a good one.
