The Annual Adler Planetarium's Celestial Ball Function
November 2006
November 2006
Every year, the Adler Planetarium holds a fancy black-tie function auction and fundraiser for the members of the museum and other Adler supporters. I have been involved with two and my good pal and fellow Adler volunteer Nick Kamboj took the following images.
With minor post processing of the images, we thank Nick for sharing the work and it is only now that I obtained the photos.
The Adler rolls out the red carpet for it's guests this evening
Working the registration desk was fellow Telescope Operator Linda, (far right), in the rainbow room directly at the main front entrance of the Planetarium. Nice shot!
The full spread was put out for the evenings activities and tables dressed up and the great Chicago skyline in the background makes for a magical experience.
Before we started our duties for the evening, Nick, Fellow Telescope Operator Steve and I pose for a pic before starting our duties.
Here Katie joins in.
A full open stocked bar quenched the thirst of our guests.

Nick and I imbibe in a musky gourd type of drink. It's a heavy drink, good for a cold and snowy evening with a dash of rum.

Tunes were playing with a live band, drinks were flowing and we were all having a good time working the evenings activities.
Nick's and my duties for the evening was to work the auction. Held under the magnificent dome of the Planetarium, guests gathered to bid on various items. Our job was to spot the up raised number and shine a flashlight on the individual so that the auctioneer could take notice.
Here, Capt. James Lovell was the evenings special guest and offered one of his personal astronaut flight items for bid.
We got this great group shot of Nick, Capt. Lovell and myself during the auction. A great personable gentleman, Capt Lovell gladly allowed us to take the image.
After the auction duty, we returned to monitor the silent auction items outside. Near the end of the evening we relaxed a bit and sampled what the bar offered. I had my usual martini's, and it was a good thing that my girlfriend drove that evening...
Thanks Nick for the shots!...
