The Moon and the Seven Sisters meet ...again

From Starry Night Times:

At 3 a.m. on the night of February 6th, the First Quarter Moon will be a mere 0.1 degrees from the Pleiades Cluster (M45). The Pleiades contains about 500 member stars, but most will be washed out by the brightness of the Moon. Use a pair of binoculars to see the brighter members of the Pleiades and the cratered face of the Moon in the same field of view.

Actually, the February occultation of the Pleiades will not be visible from Chicagoland. The Moon will have set before it sweeps into the cluster. However, the event will be in the field of view for many in western North America and Hawaii. It won't be until April 1st that Chicagoans will be able to again witness an occultation of the Pleiades. That occurrence will include Alcyone, the brightest of the cluster.

I have been placing notices for occultations in the forum for Eclipses, Conjunctions, Occultations and Alignments. Is that incorrect? I’ll be uploading a graphic and graze map for the February event later this month. In which forum should the notice be posted?

No...keep posting on the Occultations etc board. They are very much utilized and appreciated. I think your Chicago information and graphics are needed and now expected.

As the info grows on the Chicago Astronomer, it's getting confusing on where to post. Some of the boards are overlapping now and I'm working on consolidating some of them.

It's the price of growth...and that's cool.

Just keep what your are doing... ;D
