From space.com is an interesting story on just when we started referring to the three bright summer stars overhead as the "Summer Triangle".
The first referrence of the "Summer Triangle" first appeared in Rey’s 1954 "Find the Constellations" book, I asked if anyone could specifically point to a reference source prior to 1954 that coined the term.

I never gave it much thought, as I just assumed it was called that much earlier, but really, it's only been about 50 years or so!
