Political Humor with an Astronomy slant...
Remember before the March Primaries, (Those in the Chicago area), Candidate for U.S. Senate Jack Ryan ran a commercial about not funding stupid or way out projects? In the ad, people came ringing his doorbell with rather silly ideas, but one was to fund a big telescope on a mountain top, in which his campaign implied was ridiculous.
On a few astronomy boards, the running gag is that how dare he jab at astronomers, or that Seven of Nine assimilated him. I am not for or against Ryan or his candidacy, but it was rather amusing of the comments offered by the posters...
----------------------
It's official, Jack Ryan is pulling out. I tried to view the telescope on the mountain' ad in his website. It wasn't currently up. His other ads were there. (Assuming I'm in the right website.) Again, I don't think it's a slam on astronomers. However, if you think of it, the way that Federal money pays for science isn't all that much different.
----------------------------
I've seen the political ad where the guy
rings the doorbell and asks for money to build a telescope on a mountaintop. I took it as a satirical look at how things were funded and not a poke at astronomy or science funding. But, as I've recently
stated, I was an unusual sense of humor.
Regarding the disclosures concerning Jack Ryan's divorce from Jeri Ryan, (Seven of Nine of the Borg), this is SO funny I cannot stand it!!
First of all, he was married to Jeri. I'd certainly want to show her off as my wife. Though the forum in which he wanted to do that is a bit much. (For those people not in Illinois who haven't a clue what Mr. P. Edward or me are talking about, Jack Ryan's publicly disclosed divorce papers showed that Jeri Ryan complained that Jack Ryan wanted to have 'marital relations' in public places. And, Jack Ryan is running for the U.S. Senate.) To tell the truth, I didn't remember the telescope on the mountain ad as Jack Ryan's. That'll tell you how effective it was. The other thing is a bit kinky, but at least it was his wife and not some other women like other political candidates that we know of. The question is, will seven of nine people vote for Jack Ryan?

The moral could be 'don't mess with the Borg'
