I was actually the first person to join the forum under the handle Jeni, but since I lost the password (long story) and I couldn't remember the user name I decided to think up a new persona and start posting!
I met Joe a while back down on the lakefront, so long ago that I can't remember which planet he was viewing, but it was before the whole Mars event ... anyway you get my point.
Right now the astronomical equipment I own is the two eyes that I was born with and somtimes a pair of binoculars when I want to get up close and personal with the moon (not an easy feat with binocs by any stretch of the imagination) My exploration of space is more of the "oohing" and "aahing" at pictures from the various sites I posted yesterday and reading what you with telescopes have seen.
The first planet I ever saw through a telescope was Mars when it passed so close to us last year and it was awesome (thanks to the fellows at Triton's Cernan Space Center for being so generous and letting hundreds of people look). But it was nothing compared to Jupiter and Saturn, I was totally blown away. There is this little shiny dot in the sky, but wait! It's a planet and it has moons! (All 4 Gallilean moons where in view) Now lets look at another dot in the sky and it's a planet with rings! I was in an astronomy class at the time and I'm not ashamed to say that I spent the most time at the eyepiece saying "oh wow" over and over again.
But now you a bit about me, and you'll be hearing more from me in the future.
