Well, this is my fist attempt at posting, so I hope it works.
Joe, I know you said you likes the crescent moon, so here's a few pictures for you.

All 3 are with a 6" Newtonian reflector and a Fuji Finepix S5000 Digital SLR attached to a 25mm eyepice with a Digi-t ring. The first pic was on May 10th. The second was on July 8th. The third on July 9th.They aren't very detailed, but they do show definate shape. Enjoy!!







P.S. if this post works, I'm going to post more pics of the moon. I have some awesome shots.

I just gt done photographing the Moon and Antares (?) I will try get the film in tomorrow. I used my 600mm lens so Im hoping to get something good out of the roll. Ill let you know what I have once they are done.

What happened on the second one. I like that it fills the FOV. but what happened there with the lighting?

That is a hell of a good shot with just the digital camera.

Can you hook it up to your scope?

Well I may get out the wire welder, and make me a harness for my digital camera, but I think my best bet would be an eye piece with a camera that plugs into the computer. I still need to look into that. Holding the camera up to the eyepiece by hand, trying to remain still is difficult to near impossible.

Hey, Joe. The second picture was taken in daylight, so it's washed out. I've been trying different things for daylight shots because I always pick up a shadow from the secondary. It was taken at 7:24 p.m., so it was still sunny out. I've always had a problem with a shadow from the secondary in daylight, so if anyone's got any helpful hints, I'd sure appreciate them. My pictures of the Sun are cool, except for the shadow. Thanks

Here's a pic of the sun to show the secondary's shadow. See what I mean? The pic was taken in black and white, a cool option to have on a digital camera



Say, Rocketman, what kind of camera is that you've got that it has 75x zoom?? Must be nice!! Have you looked into scopetronix? They have alot of stuff for connecting cameras to eyepieces.

The contrast in the sunlit image can be increased by the use of a polarizer filter. Orient it so it picks up the darkest contrasts between the object and the sky. I place my 35mm sized polarizer inbetween the secondary mirror and the focuser by use of a special holder I made up. Works great.

Might the sunlight have gotten in between the camera lens and the eyepiece? Light infiltration is insidious. Perhaps you can cover the camera/eyepiece with a dark covering of some sort. A Chivas Regal Liquor bag comes to mind...

About the central obstruction of the solar shots. Does this happen with all your eyepieces? I have noticed that on at least the SCT's, that the wider and less powerful the eyepiece, the more one had to be at the exact center of the FOV, else the secondary shows up. I had this experience with a 40mm eyepiece on a 10" SCT.

It's definately not light getting in between the eyepiece and the camera. That Digi-T Ring doesn't have any gap in it whatsoever. I haven't tried high magnification eyepieces on the sun. I have noticed, though, that if I zoom the camera in, the shadow disappears. The only problem with doing that is I prefer to have the whole sun in view. Plus, the pictures I've taken with the camera zoomed in come out a little fuzzy. Here's some examples of that:
