By popular demand (from Joe), I'm herewith posting some biographical data:
I've been an astronut since my first visit to a public library in Detroit (about 60 years ago!), when I checked out an armload of texts.
"Sonny," I was told by the grim librarian, "these are not children's books. Are you sure you want them?"
"Uh-huh!" (Talk about terseness.)
I had a little Japanese-made refractor, purchased in Yokohama in the '60s, but not good for much with its sticky mechanical hand controls and tiny eyepieces.
Early this year, while browsing in a camera shop in Geneva, I spotted a shiny little Meade ETX70AT refractor. On impulse, I purchased it. Soon, I saw the rings of Saturn with my very own eyes for the first time in my dissolute life! The bug bit with a vengeance.
For my birthday last March, I decided to expend a tax refund on a neat gift to myself: the Meade LX90 that I describe in the equipment section here.
So, that's me, the fledgling astronomer. I'm also semi-retired after a lifetime in journalism, broadcasting and show biz. And I really, really enjoy doing astrophotography with my lovely scope and modified webcam. I also fence (epee) at the Illinois Fencers Club in Mt. Prospect. Fencing for the bod, astronomy for the mind.
