well hey! I'm new to this so im goin to introduce myself. My name is Laurie and I live in Des Plaines, Illinois .i love star gazing even though its very hard to see with all the bright lights. I'm getting intimidated by all these posts because everyone seems to know what they are talking about!but then again im still only in highschool and probably the youngest person here! i've been interested in astronomy since 3rd grade, when we did a report on all the planets. I then got a telescope for my birthday. But even though its now broken lol, i still go sky watching every now and then with my friends. I also travel alot around the U.S and Europe for vacations. And when im there, my family hates it when i drag them along or beg them to go to the famous observatories ( they are more of history-likers and still think astronomy and astrology is the same thing lol). I'm part of my school's astronomy club. every other friday we have a meeting and bring out the telescopes we made. The best thing i have seen was Saturn and its rings. Sometimes we would have ppl come in, like NASA engineers or imp. astronomers. we research things( most importantly the Columbia acc.) Right now thats all we are doing not including the only field trip we had, which was just going to the adler planetarium for a lecture from an author of a book about space travel. But if anyone can help us out with any ideas for awesome field trips, that would be great! and well another thing about myself is that i hope to someday make astronomy more than just a hobby and be an astronomer, astrophotographer or something related for NASA.( i really dont know what the real options are for those occupations there), i might not be a genius but i have the drive for it... then again, i'm still young and still deciding! Thanks for such an informative site!
