The fine folks at R.E.I and the Chicago Astronomer shared a great evening together at Chicago's Front Yard - Northerly Island, for a over night camp out and astronomy session. With about 50 participants, we guided camping sky lovers across the summer sky and shared views of a great Moon....
We had visitors throughout the evening and early morning as I lectured on various celestial objects and sky lore...
We shared Saturn, Mars, Antares, The E.T. Star cluster, Alberio, the binary of Mizar/Alcor and examined the surface of the Moon via the C11, 80mm Shorty and C102 Telescopes...
Great question and answer sessions throughout the evening, pointing out various points of interests in our urban skies.
The skies were a bit hazy, but good enough for some great views for our guests...
It was a high energy session with our R.E.I sky loving campers and we anticipate our continued involvement in future camp out activities and events.

Near the end of our session, some went to their bedrolls while others remained and took their turns taking photos of the lunar surface...
