Despite cold December nights, the Geminids are probably my favorite meteor shower of the year. Over two nights in 2012, under a similar lunar phase as this year, I observed 189 meteors, taking many breaks to warm up each night.
This year, I will have to settle for observing the Geminids ahead of the peakon the night of December 12-13, under a less than ideal sky near downtown South Bend. Still, the sky is decently dark there overhead, with light pollution being limited to areas 20-30 degrees above the horizon. I hope to see a few, especially if I can stay out until Gemini starts getting high.
