Astronomy is something that interested me but never had much for friends or family that enjoyed it too. It just never dipped into it too much. Would watch a lot of shows on the TV and keep thinking about wanting to get out and look at things for myself. After doing a lot of staining and painting work this year for our house that we have had for 2 years now and racking up rebates got the wife's approval to get a telescope. After a lot of help on forums I ordered my Celestron 6SE. I should have it delivered this week.
I found this forum while trying to find out information on the Fox Valley Astronomical Society. I live out in the Plano, Yorkville area.
Over all I am looking to start more with planets for viewing and work up to DSO. I am looking to hookup my DSLR to it once I get down using it.
I do live in a subdivision and till now I am happy that we do not have very many street lights. Just one at most intersections and they have large caps on top to force the light down. Some of the nights of being around our fire pit the look of the sky was great. Not many of our neighbors keep their back porch lights on. Our house faces North to South. I have a good site of the west to east skies through the back yards.
I am still looking for viewing events. I know they would help me get my skills better. I would out in Lisle. So that helps me be closer to events during the weeknights.
Looking forward to looking though this forum more and learning more. Hope to see maybe some of you soon at a viewing event.
