The Lunar "X" (Werner X) will be visible tonight for those of us here in CDT at 11:11 p.m.  For EDT it will be visible for you folks at 11 minutes after midnight on the 3rd.  My wife and I, with other club members are going to gather to watch it form.  We will also try to find the "V".  I will post images if they turn out.  I have some pretty good ones from previous outings.

I have often enjoyed viewing the lunar "X", but some people can't see it.

Although, I can't say I have looked for the lunar "V" before.

I anticipate your pics of the phenomenon.

23:16:00 CDT 02Aug2014 NW OK @ Ft. Supply Lake.  Canon 60Da through Classic 10" Meade LX-200.  Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer/field flattener.

Follow the terminator a little over half way up to find the "V".

Something I added in.  I took the 60Da off the scope and mounted it to tripod only.  ~1 minute exposure so there's star trailing.  Just wanted to get a little gas & dust on the Northern Cross.  Didn't have time to set up the piggyback.

Love the Lunar X, but haven't seen it very often. Nice capture.

It happens every month. However, that may occur during daylight hours. For example: The features should be on the terminator on the 1st of next month at 10:59 a.m. CDT for me. I have never tried it during the day but it may be worth the effort. I can always put on the solar filter and check out the Sun. Scroll down towards the bottom of this page for the schedule.

Note the bold lettering for the 29th of December. That will probably be my next effort. The next day will be my birthday and that's when I'll really "crater."
