Spend the Summer Solstice with the
Chicago Astronomer and the Chicago Park District
at the
"Theater on the Lake"

The Chicago Astronomer crew and the Chicago Park District will celebrate the 2014 Summer Solstice with filtered telescopes and share the event with our fans, friends and new visitors. We are fortunate to secure the area around the "Theater on the Lake" venue, with plenty of parking for Astronomers and lovers of the Sun. A new site for the Chicago Astronomer, it promises to deliver a great vantage point for solar observing on Chicago's north shore - off of Fullerton Ave.
We will arrive on-site, (around the area circled above), at 9:30 am Saturday morning and remain till 1:00 pm, sharing views of the solar face and all it's features, including Sunspots larger than the Earth, surface granulation and prominence/flares. Chicago Astronomer Paulie will set-up a H-Alpha scope and I will utilize the C11 beast with white light filtering.
The Sun will reach it's maximum northern point at 5:51 am Chicago time, so by the time we observe it, the Sun will have started it's trek back south...and with that - the start of shorter days.
There is absolutely no danger in viewing the Sun at our session, so stop by and enjoy daytime astronomy with the Chicago Astronomer crew by a beautiful lakefront setting and our closest star.
