Adler staff preview the new Sky Show
"Discover the Solar System"
30 Adler 2014
The Adler Planetarium is about to unveil a brand new sky show with a working title of "Discover the Solar System"...and we were invited to preview the presentation while the tech crew and narrator ironed out the bugs...which really were minor tweaks.
(The following pics are not the best...apologies... )
The show starts out with a futuristic setting in the year 2029 where we board a warp speed spacecraft with a sarcastic computer navigator, ready for travel on planet Earth and head straight up through the launch portal...
...and we explore the formation of a solar system, our own... and head toward various planets and the Sun...
...and through the vast Martian Valles Marineris canyon...
We venture to Jupiter, Saturn, Titan, Io and other solar system places of interests before returning back to Earth.
Our narrator Becky, was fun and very animated, practicing in timing and reaction to the running show....and did a great job. The show is an entertaining one and will be ready for the younger public very soon.
Afterwards, I chat with our techs and grab a few pics together...
Part of the show was a piece of ice that gets lodges in one of the space craft's thrusters...and the narrator must conduct a EVA and dislodge it. The prop is a solid irregular blob of glass that is chilled and handled by the audience...
After the preview, Maria and I had the entire museum to ourselves and it gave me a chance to discuss our exhibits in peace, quiet and leisure....mostly about the Apollo 13 and Gemini 12 exhibits...
..and the Opportunity Rover on Mars.
Always a great hug for Floor Manager Shirley.
On the way out, the skies were sorta clear and we catch an ominous dark cloud front to the north of the city...
Also a great lookin' crescent Moon made for a nice photo-op...
A nice opportunity to preview a sky show for the younger crowd....
