I’ve determined that magnitude -4.2 Venus will occult (cover) magnitude +3.8 Lambda Aquarii on 2014 APR 16-17. This will be a nighttime event for observers in Australia and New Zealand during the early morning of April 17. It will be a daytime event for observers in North America, who may want to give it a shot with a telescope on April 16.
The luminosity ratio of the two is almost 1600, so observation may be difficult at night and nearly impossible in the daytime. That makes it a challenge. In any event, photos and descriptions of the occultation would be welcome additions to this thread.
Here are my predicted timings for a couple of locations.
Chicago – April 16 – CDT (UT-5) 13:05:22 – Immersion 13:12:21 – Emersion
Sydney – April 17 – AEST (UT+10) 04:00:01 – Immersion 04:05:26 – Emersion
If you would like timing predictions for your location, please reply to this thread with a longitude, latitude, elevation and time zone.
