Movie nights with the Chicago Astronomer at Northerly Island

August 2013

The Chicago Astronomer will be the on-site guides to the urban sky during the "Movies in the Parks" events at Northerly Island. There are several dates running into the fall and we will post the rest as they get closer.

The next two will be in August...

August 4 will be "Dr. No" and August 26 will be "Rudy".

The graphic above shows where we will set-up telescopes at 8:00 pm and attend to our guests till about 10:30 pm or so. Saturn will be the highlight for both nights, but we will pick out various favorite summertime targets.

The weather looks beautiful for Sunday's movie and Star Party.

Enjoy a great evening at the Island and share the cosmos with the crew.

Dr. No and the clouds....

Maria and I arrived at 8pm to set-up the C11 and the day brought us cloud cover...with some sucker holes. The movie crew allowed me to announce the presence of the Chicago Astronomer and the opportunity to share views.

Still clouds would be the issue, but we enjoy the movie...

During times with complete cloud cover, I targeted our usual favorite Chicago skyline landmarks...

Archturus and other summer time objects appeared from time to time...

Back to the movie...

Visitors would approach the scope and we share nice views of Chicago Architecture and double-stars...

The movie crew and Northerly Island park Supervisor Teish stopped by to share the C11 experience..

It got chilly, but it was a fun time. I saw visitors use the "QR code" on the banner, snapping the image with their cell phone cameras, making the decision to include a good one.

Onward to the next Northerly Island Movie Night on the 26th and our movie will be "Rudy"...
