Surf Night for Astronomers and Friends
It may be well known by now that I dig surf tunes. The Ventures, The Shadows, Link Wray, Dick Dale...it's all cool. I'm even finally learning guitar, acoustic, electric and bass. Should have picked it up years ago.
I try not to miss a live surf band performing in the Chicago area, and surf tunes helps to break the back of this horrible winter we have been experiencing. This most recent gig was in a tiny bar, perhaps the smallest I have ever been in, as I and my friends were right up next to the performers...which was cool, as it enabled me to observe their fret work and technique.
Two members of my all time favorite surf band, ("The Cocktail Preachers"), were playing this evening in a band called "Waygun", wringing out great tunes including, "Apache", "Pipeline", "The Batman", "Secret Agent Man", "Rumble" and a host of others in two sets of great mastery of the guitar, bass and drums. They even had a pretty guest chick performer who played the sax.
The enjoyment didn't cease until after 1:00 am and this was a good one...a very good one!

A good combination of surf and astronomy. Next week "The Cocktail Preachers" will be performing in a nearby Chicago suburb....and I think I'll be there.
