Chicago Astronomer Movie Night's at Northerly Island
July - August - September 2013
July - August - September 2013
What a great opportunity and wonderful venue. The Chicago Astronomer has been contracted to work three Northerly Island Movie Night activities in the next coming months.
The first movie scheduled for Monday - 08 July 2013 will be "E.T. - The Extraterrestrial" starting at 8:30 pm and running till 10:30 pm.
Here are some of the details....
The screen will be just northeast of the large tent, but the direction has yet to be determined. If facing north, then a nice gentle hill will be the seating area for movie goers. If facing south, then a large flat area will be the viewing area. It is estimated that the attendance will be in excess of 300 attendees.
For the Chicago Astronomer crew....
I have surveyed the area and met with the Park Supervisor. The best site for Telescopes will be on the path just north of the screen - despite the direction it faces. The path will allow the crew to drive up to and park vehicles for the duration of the event. It makes it easier to unload and load gear. With a new path laid down now, access to the set-up area is easy. The southern part of the Island is off limits, due to construction of the new wetlands area and should be completed by the fall.
The proposed rain date is the following night.
Selected experienced Chicago Astronomers will highlight Saturn for the first two Movie night dates, but I will select a Moonlit night for our third movie session and we can have a lunar exploration session. The usual celestial targets of binaries, The E.T" star cluster and other summertime delights will be shared with our guests.
Those Chicago Astronomers who are interested in participating in this cool event, let me know soon and we will chat.
Details on the other two events as the dates approach.
