Was cool to see the first results from the new Planck Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) survey. Here's a good, basic analysis from the One Minute Astronomer

I particularly like this bit:

The upshot is that the universe is a little older than we thought, about 13.82 billion years instead of 13.77 billion years. Chances are, you won’t notice.

I won't notice. But how is the universe being older than previously thought necessarily a good thing?

And I don't get why it's a big deal that one "side" of the universe is a little heavier than the other. I would find it more unusual if the universe was exactly uniform.
