I’ve rediscovered the great alignment of December 21, 2012 to which those omniscient Mayan astrologers must have been referring. This surely means doom to all. It will be the occultation of asteroid 1576 Fabiola by asteroid 1344 Caubeta as viewed from a narrow path on Earth during the minutes surrounding 2012 DEC 21 at 20:14 UT.

That’s right – at that time Caubeta, Fabiola and Earth will all be located along the same straight line! That can only portend something truly awful. The clue to this horrendous event is buried within “More Mathematical Astronomy Morsels” by Jean Meeus. Jean credits my Italian friend Prof. Aldo Vitagliano, the author of the Solex astronomical numerical integration program. Despite his claim, I suspect that Aldo actually derived the information from ancient Mayan manuscripts. We all KNOW this must have been the case, since no modern scientist could ever have been able to hold a candle to an ancient calendar maker.

Prof. Aldo Vitagliano replied to my identical post at the astronomy.com forum where he uses the screen name Mizar48. He investigated even smaller asteroids with his Solex program, resulting in the prediction of 275 asteroids occulting asteroids on 2012 DEC 21.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in Indiana, or at any rate, socially unacceptable...

Full occultations may be, however, grazing occultations are completely legal in agricultural areas.
