Last Saturday my son and three other Cub Scouts from Pack 113 went to the Cub Scout Rocket Fest at the Fox Valley Aero Club's airstrip.
The event was organized by a friend of mine who is an FVAC member and a former Pack 113 cub master.
Two other packs were involved as well which brought the total number of rocketeers to about 50.
Besides launching the cub scout built rockets, there were launches of larger rockets, raffle prizes donated by HobbyTown USA and ice cream donated by Blue Bunny. Aero Club members also brought out their planes for us to watch after all the launches.
This is my son's launch. I lost track of his rocket in the view finder as Evan ran first one way and then the other trying to stay under it. If they could catch their own rocket, they got an extra raffle ticket.
As it turned out, he should have stayed put until the last 10 seconds.
For one launch, we attached a key chain camera to a larger rocket.
I have a lot more video, but I am still going through it all. I'll post some of the better ones later.
One highlight was the launch of an SR71 that was rocket launched and the landed as an RC controlled glider!
The only small disappointment was that with so many rockets to launch each kid only got one turn at the launch pad.
I am going to try and find another location where we can launch legally in our area so I can give my cub scouts more flight time. In Saint Charles you cannot launch in the parks or on school district property.
