Has anyone had experience using an off-axis guider such as Meade #777 Off-Axis Guider or Orion Deluxe Off-Axis Guider for Astrophotography?

I have been tossing around the idea of using a guidescope on my C8 but dont want to spend the cash on rings to mount a refractor. The rings are uber expensive for a C8 and there are problems with flexing of said rings.

The off-axis guider appears to kill 2 birds with one stone but I have been reading mixed reviews on them.

I have an off-axis guider.

Not too keen on it.

A lot of fiddling around and I just got frustarted and put it away. I need to take some time and really dive into it.

But...

I like the rings over the guider.

You can attach scopes of your choice, replace the eyepiece with whatever...including a illuminated recticle one.

do you know any place where I can get cheap but decent rings for the c8?
