Chicago Astronomer Star Party

Sunday - 01 April 2012

We are going to try and conduct our next Chicago Astronomer Star Party Sunday, the 1st of April at 7:00 pm. - just south of the Adler Planetarium building. Extended weather forecasts call for a very warm day, (in the 80's!!), and mostly clear skies - but there is a possibility of rain later.

We will have a sky full of delightful targets to enjoy and share with our fans, friends and visitors - including the Moon, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, star clusters, binaries and nebulae.

It is uncertain for a solid go for this session due to weather - I recommend monitoring this thread and follow the Chicago Astronomer on Twitter/Facebook/emails for updates and confirmations.

But so far, it's a go.

I can almost guarantee that I won't be there. My little unpaid vacation earlier this month (all the while I was spending money like a congressman), has left me counting every penny until I get paid again next Friday. With gas skyrocketing, I think a trip downtown will be out of the question. If the weather is decent, though, I'll probably do my own sidewalk session here in town, and will be looking for your lasers across the Lake.

Alright kids...

It's a 50/50 chance of clouds/rain on Sunday at this point...but I'm going to confirm the event...for now.

By Saturday evening, we should have a better solid go/no-go for the star party.

How much do we trust meteorologists? If Accuweather says it will be overcast, then it's probably a go.

it's 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon now.....

It's very overcast now and, I am seeing conflicting forecasts.

But...

Let's make a call at 5pm...giving us two hours to see...but the satellite weather Radar is showing a completely clear system...just a scan few mile to our west.

I think it will clear up nicely.

Sorry kids.

Although the Sun is trying to break out, there is a lot of moisture in the air and haze.

Bad for telescopes.

Whilst out on my adventures, near the lake front, there is a lot of haze.
