Kankakee: Theater, astronomy keep Peotone man busy

David Fuller looks to the stars, and he directs the stars. From the night sky to the local theater, the 41-year-old Peotone resident is always trying to educate and entertain.

And for the next two weekends, he’ll be busy with the Kankakee Valley Theatre Association’s four presentations of “Twelve Angry Men.”

“I’m assistant directing the show that opens this weekend and runs next weekend as well,” he said, noting that KVTA President Paula Sutter is directing the drama, adapted from the television show of the same name, initially presented on CBS.

Break a leg, Dave! Two years ago I portrayed Juror #8 (Henry Fonda) in that same play produced by Theatre on the Green in Woodstock. It was a tremendous experience. I hope Dave similarly enjoys participating in that fine lesson in civic responsibility and consensus building. Our Twelve producer has invited me to audition next month for the part of Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) in To Kill a Mockingbird. If I get the part, it will be my third court trial drama: all among the top five in AFI’s list of the best in that genre. The other was as a naval physician who is a conspirator and witness in A Few Good Men.

Meanwhile, the producer I mentioned also has a small part in the upcoming movie Coin Toss, as do two of my brothers. My portrayal of a lawyer is only slightly larger. It’s a real shame the way several other Chicago Astronomers hoped to participate, until it was learned the Bears opening game would prevent access to the Adler grounds. The film is still in the editing phase. I’ll let you know when it becomes available for viewing. Nicely done Curt! I recognized you in the clip. It's funny you mentioned Atticus Finch too, because our Juror #8 played Atticus Finch about two years ago!

It's been a fun being involved with this show. With the exception of a student-directed show in college, this is my first time being on the other side of the stage in community theater. I've enjoyed it immensely, and I hope I've added a lot to this production too.

Honestly there's not too much more to the story than what Joe put on there - just a little bit about how I do the astronomy videos and such. Unfortunately there's a paywall on the Journal-Courier's site that prevents non-subscribers from reading it, so there's not a link. But I certainly do appreciate him posting the pic I put up on FB and what is readable from the story here.
