Hello to everyone.
My name is Gerry and I've been a longtime stargazer. I just get hypnotized looking at a sky full of stars. I live in Lakeview in a high rise with an awesome 2 degree view of the eastern sky. OK, 25 degrees if I look over one of the buildings in my way. But I've still seen quite a few sights from my window.
A bit about me. As a kid, I had a small hobby scope that let me look at the moon every clear night. When I was old enough to go camping, I had my 10x50 binocs with me every night. But cars, women and work soon became bigger priorities in my life. now that I'm getting older, I'm 58, camping and the heavens are back on my list of must-do's.
I now have a Celestron NexStar 8se that I take on camping trips. (I know, single arm and all, but it was the right price, weight and the go-to is easy on my back and lets me catch up on all the wonders I've been missing.
An Orion StarBlast 4.5 that I have ready to take to local places to view. Light, easy to set-up and nice bright views. Perfect for when I'm invited to roof top parties. Live in Lakeview so there are quite a few parties.
And, don't laugh, a 4.5 Bushnell Voyager. The ball kind like the Edmond Scientific ball scope. It fits in my back pack to take to the lakefront or bike into the woods to get away from the lights. I just plop it down, put on a Rigel finder, aim and I'm looking at star clusters moon craters. When I'm done, I'm packed and walking away in under 2 minutes.
Also have a Lunt ls35tha solar scope. With all the solar activity lately, it's been fun to have.
Hoping to stop by the Adler for your Dec. 16 star party. I won't have a scope with me, but I'd love to meet those of you who are out there.
