Latest Eyes on the Sky video is out! Some really neat opportunities to catch both a very old - and young - Moon this week.



Also, Mars points the way to some bright galaxies in Leo at the end of this week, and into the early part of next. And if you have a solar filter, check out the Sun this week too - there are some great sunspots on the disk.

Enjoy - hoping for a LOT clearer weather than the last few days have been!

The solar observing season is now upon us. Not so much because of the solar activity, but because it's just too cold for much observing at night.

I've been dressing in layers since October- and it's not even seriously cold yet. Last winter's skies sucked. Very few nights were worth freezing for. A real good night, I don't mind frozen fingers and toes, but I've worked too many jobs in the freezing cold to want to spend much time outside on a winter night. I think some people might say I'm getting old, but I say I'm getting wiser...

Last winter was truly horrible for clouds. It was the cloudiest we've had in five years, I remember reading an article about it.

I can deal with cold - probably because I observe all of 15 feet away from the warmth of my house. ;D

I'll be out in the winter, I'm not that old yet, but I need either really great transparency, or really good seeing. I love a transparent, crisp winter sky.
