So.... In my fiddling around with Ebay I "Accidentally" bid on a B&L 4000 4" telescope! Yes, you heard it... I accidentally spent 130.00 on something that has really bad reviews for the most part. Beer and Ebay truly don't mix but the bed has been made.

It is coming with the hardshell case, 18mm and 30mm ep's, and the stand. Hopefully the optics are ok.

What do you guys think? Solar scope for the the upcoming Venus transit? Quick grab and go scope?

Have any of you had experiences with one of these little guys?

Honestly, I've never even heard of B&L telescopes. I have no idea what you should expect, but I think you nailed it. Turn it into a solar scope.

The film was like $42 with shipping. I just made the filter for my little go-to this morning, and in just a short observing session, I'm totally happy with it.

I laughed too Paulie. This is not the first time I "Accidentally" won something on Ebay.

I "accidentally" won a set of used Buddha drink glasses from Benihana last time I was power drinking on ebay.

I think a solar scope sounds like a terrific idea. Perhaps that would be a good use for my little pocket Celestron I came across from Julia's uncle. Another good winter project.

While we were out in California in August, we visited an old friend who had an awesomely beautiful collection of Russell Wright pottery.

He told me that he used to scoop it up on eBay with a foolproof system. He would put $10-20 bids on everything that looked interesting knowing that most of it would be outbid. A few pieces would always slip through at bargain prices. When 9/11 happened, suddenly traffic at eBay plummeted to almost nothing as we all sat in front of our TVs watching the same awful footage over and over. He ended up winning all of his bids that week. For the following ten days, he saw his postal, Fed Ex, and UPS delivery people every day with piles and piles of boxes, so many that he ran afoul of the condo board's restriction on carport clutter.

But he now has an awesome pottery collection.
