Hey there Chicago Astronomers - "Eyes on the Sky" for the coming week is ready. There is plenty to see this week, but a lot of it happens early, so be ready:



Mercury near Venus (use binocs!)
Jupiter points the way to a double star
Mars meanders through Leo the Lion
Saturn rising earlier in the morning

And more! Check it out, and subscribe on YouTube so as not to miss next weeks, when some of the planets and Moon point the way to dimmer, deep sky objects that are normally hard to find.

Scope set up & tracking on 2nd floor back deck. Now a nap before Mars & Saturn. Bummed Orion Nebula too low to be seen in scope.

Awoke to clouds. Turned off mount & back to bed:

Nothing worse than getting out of a warm bed early in the a.m. only to see clouds.

Maria and I were prepped to venture out on her flat roof in sleeping bags to catch the Leonids peak last night...but seeing clouds in the south...it was only a matter of minutes that we were socked in with heavy clouds.

Really, with the clouds, wind and cold like this, these sweet, pro looking videos he keeps posting amount to only so much taunting.

It's not meant that way, Patrick!! Honest. Trust me, when I spend all this time not only researching what's going to happen, but making graphics, talking about it, editing the video for it, and then I CAN'T SEE IT because it's cloudy, I guarantee you, it sucks for me too.

But hey, at least when it IS clear, you'll know what to look for. Cool stuff coming up for the next video! (Praying for the Gods of Clear Weather to step in and do something positive for us mere mortals.)
