The asteroids 18 Melpomene, 20 Massalia and 23187 (2000 PN9) will all coincidentally achieve their greatest brilliances for their current apparitions on 2011 MAR 06. The latter 3 km-wide asteroid is noted because it will pass only 0.116 AU from Earth on MAR 10. I’ve created charts for them that can be seen by clicking: www.curtrenz.com/asteroids

The extended forecast isn't looking good right now, but maybe that will change. Thanks for the heads up, since the first two are on my observing list. 23187 (2000 PN9) isn't quite close enough to grab my softball glove and try to catch it as it whizzes by, but maybe I can get a look at it.

Have yet to seen an asteroid, so will see if I can make the weather cooperate when I get back to Austin next week!

I've only seen two, and they were both easy finds. The greatest moment of my astronomical life was showing 4 Vesta to an astronomy professor who had never seen it.
