The huge CME the Sun let loose two days ago should cause spectacular auroras. People in London are hoping for clear skies. The forecast is for northern lights on the horizon as far south as Madison, but this is an inexact science at best. Best times are usually around midnight.

Weather permitting, active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Igaluit to Juneau, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Sept-Iles, and visible low on the horizon from Vancouver, Great Falls, Pierre, Madison, Lansing, Ottawa, Portland and St. Johns.
Additional Forecaster comments: Several Solar events have occurred and the disturbances should reach Earth sometime on the 17th or 18th of Feb. Watch the short term auroral forecast for a 1 hour warning. We would expect auroral index 4 or more.
