I just remembered that I saw a Sundog Friday morning! I hadn't even checked my pictures yet!
I woke up early Friday morning and went out for some lunar observing in the morning twilight. (Jupiter was the only other thing to be seen, and I gave it a look, too). I didn't have the telescopes out long, but I stayed outside when I was done. There were clouds blocking my view of the Sun rising, but after awhile I noticed a little rainbow in the clouds. No way! My third Sundog since December, plus I saw a Sun halo in March.
I grabbed my camera and took dozens of pictures, hoping that maybe one or two would turn out okay. My past experience was that they are hard to photograph, but that was with my cell phone camera. Not that my little purple Vivicam is the greatest, but it does a better job than my phone. I did end up with a few decent shots, two of which are above. The last one is cropped, and if you look carefully in the center, you can see a sort of rainbow in the clouds. It's funny that by the time I saw it starting to fade was when the camera picked it up best. Go figure.
