A Pleasant surprise in my mailbox this Christmas Eve day 2009
Slept most of the day away...very blissful and I would rather sleep than do just about anything else.
But, whilst surveying my domain this afternoon out the front window...I noticed that there was something in my mailbox...something wrapped in Christmas paper.
How odd.
I retrieve the mystery package..perhaps it's a vial of ebola or something from a ex...?
It's from a new neighbor!
( I often set up telescopes by my garage, to test out equipment and improvements before a observation session with the public...and usually get curious passerbyers who ask what I'm doing and I offer them a peek. In one session two weeks ago, a cute neighbor of mine stopped and inquired why I got a telescope out. Explaining what I do, I showed her the Moon and explained surface features as she gazed upon the lunar features. She spent quite a bit of time in the cold, fascinated by the Moon...and with my new 11 inch telescope, the views are indeed magnificent.
She said her husband and she recently moved into the block - and she often sees me out working on the Chevelle or doing astronomer things. She always wanted to stop by and say hi, thanked me and went on her way. )
Then...I get this....

I dig the Refracting telescope and star...very thoughtful and cool.
A very nice note, homemade cookies and an invitation for a breakfast this Saturday!

Brought a smile to me this day, glad I made a nice impression and made a friend.
Thought I would share this with my Chicago Astronomer buds in this season of caring and friendship.
Now...off to a X-mas eve gathering of family and close friends.
